Vezina Trophy Award Winners

Season 1 -- Dominak Hasek (BUF)
Season 2 -- Curtis Joseph (EDM)

The Vezina Trophy was first presented to the National Hockey League in 1926 by the three owners of the Montreal Canadiens. The trophy was created to honor Georges Vezina, an outstanding goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens. On November 28, 1925 Georges Vezina collapsed during an NHL game and died soon after of tuberculosis.

From 1926 to 1982 the Vezina Trophy was presented to the goaltender(s) of the team that allowed the fewest number of regular season goals. Since 1982 the award is given annually to the goaltender adjudged to be the best at their position. The recipient is chosen by the general managers of all the NHL member teams. The winner also receives $10,000 and the runners-up receive $6,000 and $4,000 respectively.
